It is important you practice rotator cuff exercises, especially if you practice a sport, do constant weight lifting or have recently injured your rotator cuff.


The rotator cuff is what stabilizes your should joint movement, an important piece of our everyday movement. By using rotator cuff exercises you strengthen your rotator cuff and help prevent future injuries.


Before starting any type of exercises always remember to warm up. A light jog or walk and a bit of stretching will do.

 

Using Your Knee
Sit on a bench and bend one leg up on the bench so you can place your elbow on your knee. With a light weight in your hand, slowly lower you hand towards the floor, only go about half way. The bring it slowly back up.

 

Lie Down
Lie face down on a bench, and place one arm towards the floor. With a light weight in your hand, lift the weight towards your shoulder, your elbow at a 90 degree angle, and slowly return to the starting position.


After practicing these rotator cuff exercises cool down by doing some light stretching and walking for about 5 minutes. Remember to always to light weights, there is no need for heavy weights.
